Karl Emil Heinrich Schwedler (August 13, 1902-1973?) fronted the German propaganda swing band “Charlie and His Orchestra”. A crooner and playboy who spoke excellent English, “Charlie” (along with band leader Lutz Templin) rewrote the lyrics of popular swing hits and gave them pro-Nazi connotations, under the payroll of the Ministry of Propaganda (the songs were broadcasted over England, but didn’t make the intended impression as they were heard by listeners as a sort of comedy act). Really. The songs are hilarious.
After the war, Karl moved to California with his wife and children, became a business man, and passed into obscurity.
Personally, I find his dulcet diction and amusing accent rather adorable.
